Racing, Riding & Shenanigans

It has been a longtime since there has been a CBR blog post.  The CBR Team has been very busy racing all summer long, and when we are not racing we are riding.  Here is a half-ass look at what has been happening since June.

Octoberfest at the Kingdom Trails

Not to mention several weekend and day trips to the Kingdom Trials, and weekly Suncook Valley Fat Tire Club rides at Bear Brook, Franklin Falls and the Concord Hospital Trails.  I’m sure I have forgotten something, but I have not forgotten how much fun we have had, and I'm sure there will be more to come.

Halloween Ride

The 2011 race season just ended in October and the 2012 season is just around the corner.

Congratulations to all the CBR Team members.  Everyone had a great season with great results!

Thank you to our sponsers; Likin' Bikin', Law Office of Glenn C. Raiche and A. F. Catauro Lawn & Landscape.

2011 Big Ring Rumpus (I need more cowbell)

What this race needs is more COWBELL and PRB!

The Big Ring Rumpus is not really a mountain bike race, but more of a dirt crit.  The race basically consists of a fire road loop with pretty much no climbing; four miles per lap.  Novice raced 4 laps, Sport raced 6 laps, expert and elite raced 7 laps.  For someone who really enjoys technical mountain bike racing with roots, rocks, hills and descents will find this race absolutely boring...

Colleen Raiche closing the gap on her competition.
Check out Judy's new shoes.

Mike Lanigan flying into turn one.

Ray Webber coming through the finish shute.

Anthony Cautaro leading the pack.

Judson Belmont.  HA, I don't even know.  Insert captions here!!
The Webbers.  Notice Ray's recovery drink.

Team management at its BEST!

Clark Brothers Racing base camp.
Kyle and I decided that we would skip this race to work on our team management skills and support the rest of the CBR team for the day.  This consisted of setting up the CBR base camp, obnoxiously ringing cowbells and drinking PBRs while everyone killed themselves, ah, I mean raced around a dirt road for multiple laps.  I thought we did a good job, but the rest of the team thinks we are better racers than team managers (ah, what do they know).

Is that poison ivy they are sitting in?
Congratulations to all the CBR racers that participated in the Big Ring Rumpus.  You couldn't ask for better weather, the course was dry and everyone did great!!  Even cycle cross GRANNY until she ran into a car going through the finish shute!  Holy SCHNIKES who parks their car in front of the finish shute?!

The MAZ with custom porta potty signs.

A big thanks to Dave Mazalauski aka The MAZ for organizing a great EFTA event!

Big Ring Rumpus results.

Next Sunday is the Pinnacle in Newport, NH.

Weeping Willow

Kyle Clark 2nd place sport senior.

We had great weather and great results at the Weeping Willow race in Ipswich Massachusetts last Sunday.  This was the second EFTA NECS race of the season and we had the entire Clark Brothers Racing Team there.  Other than Dan aka Alton Mutz who taco belled his front wheel, we all had an awesome time.  Kyle Clark, Judson Belmont, Glenn Raiche and Colleen Raiche were all hauling arse on the course and had podium finishes.  Great job guys!

Brianna Mutz showing some skillz on the bridge!  This was Bri's first race.

Colleen Raiche 2nd place novice veteran.  I see a promotion to sport in the near future.

Glenn Raiche 2nd Place Clydesdale.

Judson Belmont 2nd place novice master.

Daniel Mutz hauling arse pre-taco belled front wheel!

Kyle Clark, Taylor Clark and Mike Lanigan having some post race beverages.

A big thanks to Derek Griggs of KHS for hosing Likin' Bikin' and Clark Brother Racing under his tent.

Next Race is the Big Ring Rumpus Sunday June 5th.

The Gloucester Grind

I'm not sure if the XXX is for the race course hazards or the bottle of Jack.

Mike Lanigan took 7th place in his first EFTA NECS race.
Judy Webber having fun!

Glenn Raiche pushing (literally) his way through the crowd of racers
The CBR Team headed down to Gloucester, Rhode Island on Sunday for the First EFTA race of the season; The Gloucester Grind.  The majority of the team had raced this event previously and kind of had an idea of what the terrain was like, but for Anthony Catauro and Mike Lanigan it would be their first time racing this event and they had only heard the rumors about the rock gardens that would devour the weak and demoralize the strong (we kind of talked it up bit)!
When we arrived in the lovely town of Gloucester the weather wasn't too bad, overcast and temps in the 50s.  We all were just hoping the rain would hold off and it did for the Novice racers, but no such luck for the Sport, Expert and Elite racers.  About halfway into the first lap the sky opened up and start dumping on us.  The course turned into a total shit show!  Riders were dropping like flies in the rock gardens and on the slick roots, and the mud filled trails made it hard to pedal, but you know what, this is mountain biking and mountain biking is WICKED freakin fun!
Taylor Clark grinding his way to the finish line.
Anthony Catauro flying through the finish line.

Colleen Raiche with her game face on!

I have to give credit to Colleen Raiche for helping out a little boy who went over the handle bars on his bike and broke his tooth.  Colleen stopped to help the boy out while her nemesis rode on by and got a huge lead on her, but Colleen fought hard and caught her towards the end of her second lap and passed her for a second place podium finish!

Kyle Clark powering through the corner.

The CBR Team raced hard and posted good results.

Next weekend is Willowdale!

2011 Fat Tire Classic

Ray, Judson, Glenn & Collen getting ready for the start.
The CBR team headed down to Farmington CT for the Fat Tire Classic on Sunday April 17th.  All and all it was a pretty good spring day.  Sunny with a little breeze and not too hot.  This being our first time at this race venue we were pleasantly surprised.  The Winding Trails course was really nice and very similar to the Franklin Falls.  A mix of double track and single track.  The trails weren't very technical, but the mud did suck your tires in pretty good.  There was a nice short steep hill climb toward he end of each lap.
Klye flying through the feed zone!
I think the Clark Brothers Racing Team did very well considering none of us have ever raced the Fat Tire Classic before, and this being the first race of the 2011 season.  Oh yeah, and Colleen Raiche, Glenn Raiche, Ray Webber, Judson Belmont, Anthony Catauro and Larry Webber just moved up to Cat 2 from Cat 3!  I would have to say though, the best part of the day was seeing Judy Webber out there racing after not being able ride or train for months due to injury.  That was AWESOME!  Way to go Judy!

Judy riding like a pro!

Anthony tearing it up on his brand spanky new Pivot.

Larry making single speed look easy.

Taylor on his single speed wishing the feed zone had pints of beer!

Pretty good results for the first race!

The next race is the EFTA Glouster Grind in Glouster RI on Sunday May 15th.

We received a couple boxes of awesomeness today at the CBR headquarters.  One box came from Verge America containing the 2011 Clark Brothers Racing jerseys.  The other box came from my friends at Action Graphics full of Clark Brothers Racing shirts and hoodies.  Both Verge and Action Graphics have been providing CBR with quality apparel for the last couple of seasons.  Thanks guys!

Nice shirts and hoodies!
